The Lady Jays Varsity soccer team won their first game of the season Monday, March 28. They defeated Highland Park 2-0 in a home game.

This win comes after two tough losses against Wichita North, and Hays high school. Giving the Lady Jays a record of 1-2.

The team is optimistic about new changes that have occurred this year. Taking over as head coach is Mitchell Dehoff, a math teacher at the Freshman Success Academy. Dehoff is the former Junior Varsity head coach.

One of the focuses this year is preparation and planning for opponents. The team has started examining film as part of an effort to focus on skill building and consistency of play.

“I think that’s what’s going to help us a lot” said Maddy Forrester “Because we’ve never been able to watch film before.”

The girls are playing their next game at Wichita West on Thursday, March 31.

“We’ve got a very good team this year” Maddy said “I think we just need to really put our minds to it and work together as a team.”
