Splashing Into Swim

As Junction City High School’s boys swim team dives into the new season, they’re ready to change their mindset and contribute some new factors that will make this season better than before.

Swimming can be relaxing when you’re just hanging out around the pool with your friends, but when you swim as an athlete, it takes a lot of skill and practice.

Marcus Walker explained that when he’s training for a meet he doesn’t use any one practice to joke around, he pushes himself constantly so that he can improve his skill and shorten his time.

The boys are also expected to come to practice well prepared and ready to get to work. “We’re expected to bring a smile and a lot of energy and a positive attitude” said Walker.

Making their practices a positive environment is important to the team, because it allows them to focus on their training and help motivate each other, instead of creating drama, and making the season one they won’t want to remember.

The boys are very excited for what’s to come, and have a few goals they’d like to meet by the end of the season.

“As an individual I’d like to go to state” Said Raul Ramirez “as a team, I’d like to see a lot of us improve throughout the season”.

Willie Mabry, the only junior on the team said that swim allows you to get to know new people you normally wouldn’t talk to on a daily basis, and that sparked a goal for him.

“I want to come together and become closer as a team” said Mabry. He went on saying that’s its cool for him to be putting himself out there and meeting new people, or getting closer to a few of the guys that he played football with.

The entire team is looking forward to making this a season to be proud of, and one they won’t forget.
