Junction City High School is home to many talented students. There are many students who play sports and who sing in the choirs, however one student who is at JCHS, Junior Matthew Gaurdiola who enjoys doing Parkour. Parkour, also known as free running, is all about getting from Point A to Point B as quickly as one can and consists of using one’s own body as flow.

Gaurdiola began to take an interest in Parkour when his brother showed him a video, and ever since then, Gaurdiola has been doing Parkour whenever he can.

“The feeling of being in the air or doing a new move is a mix of adrenaline,” said Gaurdiola.

In order to maintain safety, Gaurdiola breaks down the moves so he is able to free run while staying limber.

He gets a lot of his inspiration from Jesse La Flair and YouTube which has helped Gaurdiola in figuring out moves. La Flair, a professional in the world of Parkour, uploads videos to YouTube to help many interested in the sport. Gaurdiola does the same and shares his knowledge with his friend Gunner Richardson, with learning Parkour.

Gaurdiola carries around a GoPro when he does new moves. A GoPro is an attachable camera that he uses to take video of the moves he does.

Regarding his future in Parkour, Gaurdiola plans to own a gym and help others train in Parkour as a career.
