With prom night set for May 2, only a few weeks away, excitement is building at Junction City High School as students dive into the final stretch of preparations. Hallways are buzzing with conversations about outfits, dinner plans, and who’s riding with whom. Staff and student volunteers are also working behind the scenes to ensure the event reflects the school’s tradition of memorable spring celebrations.
One of the biggest tasks for many students has been finding the perfect outfit. Local shops in Junction City and nearby Manhattan have seen a steady stream of teens searching for dresses, suits, and accessories. Businesses say they’re booked solid as students rush to get last‑minute adjustments finished before the big night.
“I finally found my dress after trying on what felt like twenty different ones,” said JCHS senior Kaitlyn Sohnery “Now I’m just hoping my shoes don’t hurt too much by the end of the night.”
Transportation planning has also become a major focus. Groups of friends are coordinating carpools or arranging rides with family members. Some students say they’ve been planning their transportation since late March to avoid the last‑minute scramble.
Meanwhile, the prom committee has been working for months to bring the event’s theme to life. Teachers and volunteers are helping assemble decorations, test lighting, and organize the layout of the venue.
“We’ve put a lot of effort into making sure the theme feels immersive,” said committee member Rachel Fernandez “We want students to walk in and immediately feel like they’re somewhere magical.”
Local florists and restaurants are also preparing for the rush. Businesses say the week before prom is always one of the busiest of the spring season.
“I still haven’t figured out where we’re eating,” senior Christian Jubrey admitted. “Every place we’ve called is packed, so we might have to get creative.”
As May 2 draws closer, anticipation continues to build across the school. Whether students are going with dates, friends, or flying solo, the countdown is officially on. And while the preparation can feel overwhelming, many say it’s all part of the excitement that makes prom night one of the most unforgettable moments of high school.
