JCHS Track and Field Team Performs Well at Manhattan Invitational

On April 12 the Blue Jays traveled to Manhattan to compete in the Manhattan High School Track and Field Invitational. Other schools that competed included Highland Park High School, Manhattan High School, Seamen High School, Seamen High School, Wichita East High School, and Wichita Heights High School.

 

On the girl’s side:

Sprints

Freshman Jashala Dixon earned a fourth-place finish in the 100m dash with a final time of 13.44. In the 400m dash, Tiara Johnson had a sixth-place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 1:06.94. And with an unexpected first-place finish freshman Jayda Harris ran a time 1:03.22.

In the hurdles, Keiana Newman took first in both the 100mH (15.35) and the 300mH (47.04).

Stephany Lechuga had a sixth-place finish in the 1600m. She set a personal best time of 6:05.53

 

Field

Freshman Sarahgrace Philling took second in the girl’s triple jump with a jump of 31-2.24.

Junior Savannah Adams took first in the girl’s shot put with a throw of 39-2. She came back to place second in the girl’s discus throw. Sherrie Jones had a second place finish in the shot put with a final throw of 39-10, and won the girls discus with a throw of 121-0.

Savannah Adams later went on to take a first-place finish in the girl’s Javelin throw with a final throw of 119-7.

 

Relays

The girls 4×100 relay earned a third-place finish in a very close race. The overall time for the girls 4×100 was 51.76.

The 4×400 was a big win for the girls with a final time of 4:22.53; a new best for the relay.

 

On the boy’s side:

Sprints

Sophomore David Giddens finished third place in the 100m dash with a final time of 11.51.

Senior Aaron Hamilton took a third-place finish in the 200m dash. His final time was 23.84.

Sophomore Marcello Bussey ran a 52.51 earning him a second place finish.

Senior Javontez Brime had a first-place finish in the 100mH with a final time of 16.12. Brime came back to place second in the 300mH with a time of 41.75.

Sophomore Matthew Harley took fifth in the 100mH with a time of 18.36. Harley finished sixth in the 300mH with a final of 45.70.

Distance

Senior Juan Tovar took third place in the 800m dash with a time of 2:02.32. Juan Tovar also placed fifth in 1600 with a time of 4:45.60.

Field

Freshman Chazaya Ruffin took third in the high jump with a final of 5-10.

Sophomore David Giddens took first in the boys long jump with a jump of 20-11.

In the triple jump, Junior Alex Deguzman took third with a jump of 38-3. Zane Thornton took fourth with a jump of 38-0.

In the boys shot put Antonio Cooper took second place with a throw of 50-6.5. Jesse Newson took fifth with a throw of 45.4

Relays

The boys won the 4×100 with a final time of 43.76.

In the 4×400 the boys ran 3:32.41 earning them a first-place finish.

The 4×800 team finished fifth with a time of 9:38.84

 

Team Results:

The boys fought hard to earn themselves an overall second-place finish. The girls produced a third-place finish barely missing second place.
