One of the best times for a sports fan is finally back, March Madness. March Madness doesn’t stay around for very long but when it’s here people lose their mind and start taking off work. This year has been a crazier one in the past couple years with more upsets and buzzer beaters. There was a total of 5 upsets in the first round with the biggest upset with a 15 seed Middle Tennessee upsetting a 2 seed Michigan State. As the tournament has gone on the upsets have gone down but the Cinderella of this year’s tournament has been the 10 seed Syracuse making all the way to the Final Four.

The round of 64 was when all the madness happened with 5 upsets which is the most upsets in the first round of March Madness history. 11 seed Northern Iowa upset 6 seed Texas with a half court buzzer beater or how about 7 seed Iowa beat 10 seed on a tip in offensive rebound at the buzzer. There was also a controversial call with the 8 seed St. Joseph beating 9 seed Cincinnati on a dunk. Cincinnati was close to an upset with a put back dunk at the buzzer but the Cincinnati   player’s finger tips were still on the ball even though it was in the basket. All four number one seeds moved on to the round of 32.

The round of 32 had multiple close games and almost upset but the higher seeded teams choked. 10 seed Syracuse continued their Cinderella story with a win over 15 seed Middle Tennessee who looked to be the Cinderella of March. All four number one seeds advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. 3 seed Texas A&M made a historic comeback against 11 seed Northern Iowa with scoring 12 points in the final minute of the game to send the game into overtime. The Aggies dominated in overtime and pulled out with the win and a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.

The Sweet Sixteen narrowed down who the best teams were in the tournament with all four number one seeds advancing along to the Elite Eight. 10 seed Syracuse continued the Cinderella story with a win over 11 seed Gonzaga. Each number one seed won by a margin of double digits such as 1 seed Kansas, 1 seed Oregon, 1 seed North Carolina, and 1 seed Virginia.

In the Elite Eight three of the four number one seeds lost such as 1 seed Kansas losing to 2 seed Villanova, 1 seed Oregon losing to 2 seed Oklahoma, and 1 seed Virginia losing to 10 seed Syracuse. The only 1 seed that advanced is North Carolina with a win over 5 seed Indiana. 10 seed Syracuse made a comeback against 1 seed Virginia and eventually won the game moving onto the Final Four.

The Final Four did not go how predicted, 2 seed Oklahoma got blown out by 2 seed Villanova. Most experts had Oklahoma moving onto the championship while instead Villanova blew out Oklahoma and is moving onto the championship. 1 seed North Carolina beat 10 seed Syracuse and is also moving on the national championship.

The National Championship was one for the ages between North Carolina and Villanova with a game tying three to tie the game up at 74. Villanova had 5 seconds left on the clock with the ball in their possession. Villanova’s big men hit a deep three at the buzzer to win the game 77-74. The Villanova Wildcats are your 2016 NCAA Division-1 National Champions.
