Benny The Bluejay To Be Renamed

Benny The Bluejay To Be Renamed

Walter Wadford, Reporter

Recently, Junction City High School is attempting to resurrect their mascot, Benny the Blue Jay. After Benny’s recent absence, JCHS has decided to awake Benny from his nest and use him to encourage our school in school wide activities. Junction City High School’s new cheer coach, coach Goheen is responsible for the revival of our school’s beloved mascot.

“We want the school to know that the mascot is there to support them in their academic efforts and their athletic competitions.” said coach Goheen. “We want them to know that it represents the best of all of us and that it would do a good job in representing our school and community.”

Next year Benny will be coming back new and improved with a modified suit. Inside the head of the suit will be a fan to keep him cool during the humid fall football games and the jam packed basketball games. But the suit isn’t the only thing that is going to change about our mascot, he will also be renamed!

In past years our school’s mascot has been named “Benny”, but this year that will change.

“For most students who are at the high school they have been without a mascot for the past few years so for them it is a new concept. A lot of kids who grew up in Junction City grew up with Benny and we have Benny’s mascot costume but our new one is not Benny so we wanted to give students a new opportunity to choose a new name and a new and a new personality.”

Coach Goheen is going to announce the new name of our mascot this Friday during seminar. For all students and alumni that are disappointed about the changing of the mascot’s name, do not think that your voice doesn’t matter! You can vote for the new name of our mascot on twitter and hashtag #JCNAMETHATMASCOT. For more information you can stop by coach Goheens at room 126.
