Need to Vent? Check out this free app

Rachel Soh, Blue Jay Update

Sometimes it’s hard to reach a friend or a family member, or it’s just uncomfortable to talk to someone when you know they might not approve. The app called “Vent” is a social media app that lets you vent out your feelings to strangers online.

Although there are other social media networks that allow you to post freely, it’s hard to post when you feel like someone might judge you for it.

Vent is not completely anonymous and it requires you to make an account with a username and email (the profile picture and bio is optional), but it does not require a gender, your real name, or birth date.

When you upload a “Vent” the app asks you “How are you feeling?” and you slide a bar on the bottom to choose from six different categories of fear, surprise, sadness, anger, affection, and happiness, all of which have different colors to indicate them. You choose a feeling or mood and then type whatever you are feeling.

The Vent community is fast responsive, so in the matter of seconds you could get a response ranging from a “like”, WTF, OMG, LOL, HUG, or a reply and you would get a notification in your ‘Activity’.

You can also socialize with other venters by clicking on the ‘Vent Feed’ and viewing the most popular vents, or the latest vents by swiping left to right. The more you socialize, the more listeners you can get.

The purpose of the app is to be able to freely express what you’re thinking without the fear of being judged. However, you might note that because Vent is for this purpose, therefore there are a lot of sad posts about suicide, depression, and anger. Sometimes just by clicking the “HUG” button, you might just help that person overcome what they’re going through.

You can connect with people who might be going through the same experiences as you, be yourself, feel accepted, and feel supported.

You can get this cool app on the iTunes or Google Play store for free!
