Junction City High School has its very own preschool this year ran by Lauren Simmons in room 283 at the Career Academy Campus (main building). The preschool is held only on blue days from 10:20am-12:20pm. The pre school is student ran with 5 student mentors, Zara Pickard, Haley Kohlmann, Shannon Carlsrud, Steffani Dowling, and Shaley Jones, all of which were part of the preschool last year. This is the second year for the school’s preschool.

“Baby Jay Pre-K is free and is currently at 13 kids, but we would like to have a max of 20,” Simmons said.

The wonderful experience the kids get with the high schools preschool is extremely unique. The students in the class are assigned days that they will be in charge of the kids and they have a designated theme. The kids will not experience the same thing every day. The goal of the preschool is to give kids more interaction with other kids their age and to help develop those skills they will need leading to kindergarten.

A normal day at Baby Jay Pre-K would begin at 10:20 with the students meeting the kids in the commons to greet them. Then they will walk them to room 283 to have a little free time before the first activity begins. The kids will take part in art projects with all materials provided, participate in exciting physical activities and then have snack time which will be concluded with dismissal at 12:20.

If you are interested in having your kids, ages from 3-5, in the Baby Jay Pre-K there is paperwork that needs to be filled out and kids must have all required vaccinations. The paperwork can be found on Lauren Simmons’s teacher site, which can be found by going to the USD 475 Junction City High School website under the staff tab. The link to her teacher site can be found below as well.
