Senior Parking Spots

Junction City High School has recently decided to remove senior parking. Senior parking was a privilege that the senior class had that allowed closer parking to the main doors of the school. The high school has had senior parking since the Class of 2008. After meeting with Mr. Westerhaus, the newspaper staff learned that many problems arose from having the senior parking spots. One of the main problems discussed was the fact that the school does not have adequate monitors to watch who is and is not parking in the senior parking spots. When an underclassman would get caught in senior parking, the student would get called out of class just to go move their car, ultimately missing instructions from class.

Senior students that drove to school were asked how they felt about not having the senior spots anymore. Zara Pickard replied, “I strongly dislike it, it’s harder to find spots.” Haley Kohlmann said, “I always have to park in overflow anyways because I don’t get to school until 10.” “The seniors deserve the front spots because they have waited to get the closer spots,” said Katlyn Jordan. Lastly, Lauren Smith said, “I think it’s stupid that we don’t have the spots even though I parked in them last year as a junior.”

Mr. Westerhaus clearly stated that if Junction City High School ever wanted senior parking again, the students would have to use their voices and speak with STUCO.
