ATHLETE PROFILE: Swim Team Member Melanie Cervantes
April 17, 2019
Sophomore Melanie Cervantes is in her second year as a member of the swim team. We sat down with her to talk about how her season is going.
Q: How long have you been swimming?
A: Since my freshman year and I am currently a sophomore.
Q: What events do you do and why?
A: I do the 50 free the 100 free and sometimes I get put in relays.
Q: What motivates you to continue to swim?
A: Honestly I just want to get it over with. That’s what inspires me to just finish through.
Q: Is swimming something you think you’d continue doing after high school?
A: Most likely not, I don’t think so.
Q: What has been your biggest struggle this season?
A: I feel like going to practice. In the moment it’s hard because you don’t get to breathe when you want so you just feel like you’re dying and my head starts hurting.
Q: What do you think you bring to the team?
A: We get along the whole team does, so I guess friendship and loyalty.
Q: How do you prepare during the off season?
A: I don’t.
Q: What is going through your head while competing?
A: While I’m in the water I usually think of a song and start singing it.
Q: What goal are you trying to reach this season?
A: To drop my 50 time. I am currently at a 37.58, and my goal is to get a 35.00
Q: What makes swim better than other sports?
A: Well I never tried swim before, I just want to try and do different sports that I’ve never done before, and it was a good choice. I enjoy it.
