ONEPOINTFIVE – Amine // Album Review

ONEPOINTFIVE is Amine’s sophomore record, following up his 2017 project, Good For You. In my opinion, this record is Amine’s best so far. There’s a good mix of humor, melancholy, bangers, and vibes. This is an experimental project that will draw you in and keep you in until it’s done.

Favorite Tracks:

BLACKJACK –

This is one of my favorite tracks on the record. The percussion has a unique sound, which is an Amine staple, and it has an infectious 808 throughout the verses. It has a darker sound than most of the album, which was a nice change while listening through it, and show’s Amine’s versatility.

WHY? –

Switching abruptly from the hard gritty texture of BLACKJACK, you’re greeted with a melody that sounds like it’s being played from an old-timey music box, which definitely catches your ear. This track sets a good vibe and has a good flow.

SHINE –

This track is another one of my favorites, because of the pre-chorus/chorus, and the beat behind them. Amine’s bars on the verses set a good atmosphere between the chorus, which is honestly what I really look forward to in this track.

Least Favorite Track:

HICCUP (feat. Gunna) –

This is one of the most underwhelming tracks on the album in my opinion. The beat is pretty good, but Amine sounds out of place rapping over it. Though, I can respect his openness to try out a new sound even if it didn’t work out.

In summary, this is one of the best records I’ve heard all year. It was hard to pick which tracks I wanted to showcase as my favorites, and it was even harder to pick a track for the least favorite list. This project was short at only 34 minutes and had a minimal amount of filler or throwaway tracks which a lot of projects seem to have recently. It’s short, sweet, and to the point. I can see myself coming back to this record a lot.

FINAL SCORE: 8.5/10
