Hobbies For When You’re Not Good At Keeping Hobbies

Hiking is a fun and opening activity to do when you have any free time.

Binge-watching Netflix and searching through every Youtube tutorial is cool, but how much cooler would it be if you had a real hobby? If you can never think of an answer when someone asks ‘what do you do for fun’, this list of ideas may help you create a more interesting conversation – and even find friends or relationships through similar interests.

  • Coloring Books

Coloring and learning how to stay in the lines was fun when we were all in kindergarten, but that doesn’t mean we have to leave it back in the classrooms. Adult coloring books can help relieve stress and is an easy item to take with you when traveling or taking road trips.

  • Learning to play an instrument

You don’t have to take on something as complex and difficult as the harp; a simple instrument such as the ukulele can be a super simple and relaxing thing to learn. How neat would it be to bring a ukulele on vacation and surprise new people with your talents?

  • Hiking

Walking at your own pace during a quiet, 60-degree day can be a great way to spend your morning, evening, or night. No need to run or climb for hours – a simple walk through nature can reconnect your mind with the world around you.

  • Calligraphy

Watching satisfying Instagram videos of artists forming words in pleasing fonts is an easy way to lose track of time and spend 30 minutes mesmerized. What if you were the one bringing everyone to awe with your focus and precision?

  • Magic Tricks

Even if your favorite acts on America’s Got Talent are the singing and dancing, you can’t deny how interesting and fun magic tricks seem to be. The best part is that only you know how the magic works – everyone else just believes you’re a magical genius.

  • Cooking or baking

The messy counters and the scattered ingredients may not be what draws you to this one, but the sweet deserts or dinners (and the ability to show off what great food you can bring to the table) may bring this one to 1st place.

  • Reading

Reading doesn’t have to be as boring as your homework assignments from your history textbook. Everyone knows the movies are always worse than the book – so that means if you find an amazing movie, the book has to be 10x better, right?

  • Decorating

Spending time bringing life and color to a room, and making plain white walls seem like a teenage-movie-dream-room sound like the perfect way to spend the weekend.

  • Crocheting or Knitting

This one is extra fun; the better you get at it, the more and the bigger things you can make. Once you become more professional with it, you can actually make money off of what you’ve made!

  • Geocaching

Geocaching is a “game” where you follow a trail of hints that lead you places in order to find a hidden treasure. Once you find it, you replace it with a treasure of your own and move on. It’s a different and extremely fun way to spend the day.

During some free time I had at points in my life, I tried out all of these interesting hobbies. Even if some of them weren’t for me, it was an exciting experience that I wouldn’t take back.
