Top 10 Movies to Watch This Halloween

Kennedy Cox and Ben Dye

Halloween is approaching and it’s around that time to cuddle up in your pumpkin themed blanket and turn on the T.V. The looming question that everyone seems to ponder for 30 minutes of unnecessary time is: what movie should I watch? Well, let me make it easy for you. Here is a list of 10 of the best Halloween movies on the market. You’ll thank me later.

1) Hocus Pocus

A childhood classic (at least for the millennials).  Three witches on a quest for a girl to kidnap in order to get their youth back sounds like a good movie to me. A talking black cat also works too.

2) Halloween

If you haven’t heard of this movie, you’ve been living under a rock. Does the name Michael Myers ring a bell? Needless to say, Halloween is a Halloween must have, if the title doesn’t make it obvious enough already.

3) Scream

Murder mystery gone wild in the town of Woodsboro. An unknown killer wreaking havoc with it’s horror movie trivia. Only way to solve the mystery is to watch it.

4) Nightmare on Elm St.

Freddy Kreuger may or may not haunt you in your dreams after watching this one. Directed by the Wes Craven, teenagers on Elm St. are being killed in their sleep. Sounds pretty scary huh? Young Johnny Depp is a plus, too.

5) The Exorcist

This movie is a real horror. A girl possessed by a demon whose family struggles to save her. What is even more scary is that it is “based loosely” on real events.

6) The Nightmare Before Christmas

A movie that could satisfy both Halloween and Christmas, the skeleton Jack is a fan favorite. Backpacks, belts, and t-shirts all dedicated to him. It’s a musical, too.

7) The Shining

Based on Stephen King’s novel, a man goes crazy and tries to murder his whole family in a weirdly creepy hotel. This film will no doubt make you jump on  more than one occasion.

8) Corpse Bride

Another animated gem by Tim Burton. A meek man the day before his wedding accidentally proposes to an undead bride. Sounds weird but I’m sure you’ll fall in love with the characters by the end.

9) Friday the 13th

The story of Crystal Lake’s history of murder is proven when kids at a summer camp encounter the masked killer, Jason. This movie is sole reason is why people freak out when Friday the 13th actually rolls around. If that doesn’t scream iconic I don’t know what will.

10) Psycho

A 1960’s classic, Alfred Hitchcock’s The Psycho is a must have for Halloween. This one will have you feeling weary in motels and screaming in the shower.
