Wrestling Coach To Be Honored For 30 Years Of Service

Robert Laster, Head Wrestling Coach,  will be honored for 30 years of service to the Blue Jay wrestling program.

The Blue Jays will host the Annual Blue Jay Wrestling Tournament this Saturday, January 28th, at 9:00 AM.

Following the tournament, Coach Laster will be recognized at a reception hosted in the high school cafeteria.

Coach Laster became the interim head coach in 1986.The following year he was announced as the head wrestling coach where he has remained for the last 30 years.

Over the course of his career, Laster has qualified 154 wrestlers to the state tournament and in 20 of his 30 years as head coach, he has had wrestlers who have placed in their weight class.

Coach Laster is a graduate of Junction City High School where he was a stand out athlete.

As a wrestler, he placed fourth in the state in his weight class. Additionally, he was an all-state football player under legendary Junction City coach Al Simpler and was selected to play in the shrine bowl.

Friday, January 27th was designated Coach Laster Day at the high school.
