The performing arts, it’s not just all about the Drama students or the choir kids. Junction City High School is also home to one interesting class of students, the JCHS Forensics Oral Interpretation class. Much like acting classes the O.I. students perform different pieces of literature.

The students, however, compete in tournaments at different schools. These tournaments are against other students in the same events as JCHS’s students. There are a total of five events students compete in. Each student competes in at least two events at every tournament. These events include Prose, Poetry, Duo (sometimes called Duet), Dramatic Interpretation, and Humourous Interpretation. Each event allows for the students to act out a piece of literature they found in front of a judge.  Each event is  divided into three rounds and a final round  if the student scores high enough.

Forensics has been a way for students to improve their  communication and memorization skills.

“Forensics helps with confidence and public speaking,” said Senior Samantha Judd.

Forensics is also a great way to become involved and meet new people.

“I’ve made a lot of friends and I enjoy going to different schools,” said Freshman Mikaela Girardot.
