Word of the Day: Fleek

Lately there has been a lot of new vocabulary used by the current generation, but what do they really mean? The word of the Day will address words used by the current students and provide a definition to everyone who can’t seem to explain in their own connotation.

According to Urban Dictionary, the term “fleek” which usually refers to the cleanness of eyebrows means: on point or in prime condition. This word, an adjective, is used as a compliment and emphasizes the pristine condition of someone or of something. For example,

“Hey! Your outfit is on fleek.”

This would refer to the immaculate state the outfit is in. This word has a positive connotation and is used to compliment the outfit and its perfection in regards to appearance.

This word started to become popular by an app called Vine. This app enables people have the opportunity to share short videos about anything the user desires. Viner Peaches Monroe started this trend in her Vine by referring to her eyebrows as “on fleek” and the word spread across mainstream diction and has many celebrities, such as Rhianna, Kim Kardashian, and Cara Delevingne, using this popular word. This new word hype has been on many clothing and captions in the mainstream culture and has been the new compliment of this pop culture era.
