News about the Robotic Class

Mr. Shubert teaches technical and mechanical drafting, Robotics, and Intro to industrial technology. Mr. Shubert decided to instruct the Robotic class because he enjoyed robotics when he was in high school. “I love machines, power and things that went fast.” said Mr. Shubert. Mr. Shubert says the robotics class is “a great opportunity to exposed challenges to the students with advanced computer programs, teamwork, and communication and with hands on work.” In Robotics, the students always prepare for upcoming competitions and improve their robots day by day. Quinn McDonald, a senior at JCHS, starts the class with coding for the program and then builds from the computer and later refines the rest of the robot. “I like to deconstruct machines that have something wrong, then build them again.” said McDonald, who is currently working on a robot he calls Skyrise. The robot’s objective is to stack the pins between cubes to get points. The higher the skyrise, the more points you get. A couple weeks ago the Robotics class went to a competition. “That the main point of the competitions is about teamwork. The students are assigned to a partner from another school and the partners have to play a game with the robot. The game that the robot plays are mostly fast paced. The judges mostly focus on the chemistry between the players.” said Jacob Sticca. If you need any more information about the Robotic class stop by Mr. Jerry Shubert in room 287c.
